Local clergy have conducted a rededication service at Midlands Co-op Funeral Services’ new-look funeral home on Melton Road in Syston, to mark its £30,000 refurbishment.

Reverend Canon Jim Wellington, Father Anthony Pateman and Reverend Ian Mason conducted a rededication service and blessed the chapel of rest. The Chairman of Syston Town Council, Mr Ken Pacey, performed the official plaque unveiling.

The funeral home has been completely refurbished and redecorated throughout in a contemporary style including new carpets, curtains and furniture.

In terms of facilities, the funeral home has an arranging room where families can discuss their requirements in private and a private chapel where families can pay their last respects to loved ones.

Martin Widdowson, Midlands Co-op Funeral Services Regional Manager, said: “Although funerals are less of a taboo subject these days, there’s still a sense of anxiety about funeral homes and what goes on behind the scenes. By completely altering the look and feel of the home’s interior, we hope to demonstrate that there is nothing to worry about.

“Traditionally, funeral homes have been fairly sombre establishments so we decided to bring a slightly more contemporary feel to the interior design of our funeral home following on from feedback given by our families and by doing so we hope to have created a warm, welcoming and open environment in which they will feel comfortable and relaxed.”
